I remain happily unmarried

I refer to the rather lovely letter from Carol Molineaux in last week's Herald letters regarding my Inaugural Mayoral Banquet.

The evening at Northbrook College was indeed a great success and almost £500 was raised during the raffle towards my Mayor’s charities.

Something has been lost in translation as the letter states that Carol was assisted by my “wife” Eleanor. Several people have called me asking when I got married, why it was a secret and why they were not invited.

I just wanted to correct this as Eleanor is, in fact, my 8-year-old great niece who had travelled here with her parents from Atlanta, USA!

I can confirm that I remain happily unmarried.
