Hospital cafe will be missed
The cafes and shops run by lovely, welcoming, smiling volunteers have been booted out by the hospital seemingly without a by your leave or a thank you, to be replaced by commercial money-making organisations, which will no doubt put up prices and the cafes will loose their friendliness and warmth.
At least that is how it looks to me.
I have often when feeling a little unsure when in outpatients or elsewhere, found I have been able to pop into these places and have a cuppa or buy something, when visiting or as a patient, or to ask the volunteers for advice and help.
I do not think it could be bettered.
The league has for many, many years supplied the hospital with high-tech medical equipment ie the £800,000 donated by the Worthing League of Friends to provide a new state of the art CT scanner, plus
a further £800,000.
They have also provided many non-medical items such as refurbishing wards and departments to enrich patients’ care and comfort in our hospitals which cannot be provided by the National Health Service.
They have saved the National health Service considerable money.
I believe that without them the hospitals would be much the poorer in equipment and friendly care especially in the times we live in.
