Ex-Beach resident wonders what's going on

I WAS surprised when entering River Close, Shoreham Beach, this week to be confronted by an agent's board advertising "Land for Sale". What land, I wondered.

I later discovered the land in question was the insignificant patch of council-owned grass on which the board stood.

According to the agent, the land is now "surplus to requirements".

One wonders by what measure and by what authority.

As I understand it, planning permission has already been declined for the development of a detached house on the land, so I am left wondering what the underlying strategy is.

It seems to me to be underhanded, unreasonable and a complete departure from common sense.

It sets a dangerous precedent for other similar patches of land throughout Shoreham, and I wonder how long it will be before the council in its wisdom begins eyeing up front gardens with a view to development.
