Educating Andy Murray in how amazing Worthing is

The Worthing Symphony Orchestra’s loyal followers braved a “dull” rainy day by turning up in droves to experience the upbeat sounds of a great orchestra in the town’s renowned Assembly Hall, heralding a bright New Year of fabulous live music on our doorstep!

Young Polish violinist Kamila Bydlowska treated us to a superb rendition of Wieniawski’s 2nd Violin Concerto. She showed considerable bravery by not being fazed by a broken string mid-stream, later returning to the stage to complete her performance to great acclaim.

Unlike Andy, she could not merely pick up a replacement instrument and carry on regardless – violins are slightly more subtle beasts than racquets......

Maestro John Gibbons and his professional orchestra were on tremendous form throughout and we were also treated to traditional New Year waltzes, galops and polkas by the Strauss Dynasty as well as more unusual works. To finish, the audience was encouraged to join in with the indispensable Radetsky March, which they did with great gusto.

Their next concert features world-famous violinist Nicola Benedetti on Friday January 15 – tickets are selling fast so do hurry to avoid disappointment!
