Durrington, Strand need an upgrade of facilities

It is very pleasing to see the current regeneration and growth around the West Worthing Strand and Durrington train station area.

Within a short span of time, hundreds of new homes have been created in the Cissbury Chase development on the old college site, and the Skyline refurbishment of the old Lloyds buildings.

This is surely good news for the look of the area and the Strand shopping parade.

It does however have some ramifications for needed upgrades to local services and facilities. For example, with the likely increase in commuters, it is time for the tired Durrington on Sea station to be modernised.

It badly needs decent facilities like waiting areas and toilets.

The parking arrangements need to be addressed: recently the handful of spaces outside had somewhat aggressive warning notices erected threatening £100 fines for unauthorised parkers.

So it appears that the train station now has no dedicated parking at all (despite the car park around the back of the Health Authority building).

I wrote to Southern Rail a couple of months ago about this but other than saying my message had been sent to the ‘Bristol escalation team’(?) I have not had a response.
