Being out of the EU won't cut immigrant numbers

I'm hearing that leaving the EU would not enable us to limit immigration, because if we want to trade with the European market '“ probably essential to economic survival '“ we would need to conform with the requirements of the EU, as Norway and Switzerland do, which would include allowing immigration from Europe, as now.

Can any readers provide authoritative information on this?

We clearly need to know precisely what would be the consequences of such a move. Many thanks.
