Angmering village a round-about rat run

Further to your article in May 26 issue regarding traffic calming measures proposed for Angmering village.

Angmering is bounded by the A27, A280 and the A259. The village is like a round-about in a sea of vehicle traffic.

Vehicles use the village as a rat run to cut out the major congestion on the surrounding A roads.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that satellite navigation systems specifically route vehicles through the village.

The village needs traffic calming measures and speed restrictions, as at numerous times the local residents have difficulty in moving around or exiting the village, especially via Station Road, Arundel Road or Water Lane due to the weight of through traffic, to be met by the A road blockages.

Speed cushions and raised tables appear to have been successful on the village area of Bramley Green and in Roundstone Lane.

Speed restrictions would mean that passing traffic would see what the village has to offer but could only stop if suitable parking provision was increased.

Although I try to support the villages traders, on this occasion, I disagree with their assessment.

What is the traders’ solution to limit non essential through traffic and traffic calming as the current pinch points have been proved ineffective and unpopular.
