People are being urged this week to sign up for Wednesday’s annual ‘No Smoking Day’.
Taking place on March 9, it is an opportunity for people across the country to join together and support each other to take the first step to going smoke-free.
While studies show that two-thirds of smokers want to quit, nearly one in five UK adults continue to smoke, including 17 per cent of people living in the county.
This year’s campaign is encouraging people to be ‘Proud to be a Quitter, as when it comes to smoking, being a ‘Quitter’ is a good thing.
With support, people are more likely to succeed in their quit attempt and help is at hand.
GP practices across the town offer tailored support, and there is a local stop smoking team, which runs sessions at convenient times across the local area.
The stop smoking service offers a wide range of support from group sessions if that works best to motivate you, to one-to-one support, or drop-ins.
Latest results show that people are more likely to quit with support from their local GP practice or the stop smoking team than if they go it alone.
It’s also important to remember that going smoke-free isn’t easy and people shouldn’t be downhearted if you have tried and not quite made it, try again – there are never too many attempts to make one of the biggest improvements to your health.
If you do want to go smoke free, all you need to do is phone or call into your GP practice, and the practice team can work with you to work out what support is best for you.
You can also call the local stop smoking team on 0300 100 1823 or text QUIT to 66777 for advice on places across West Sussex where help is also available.
No Smoking Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire people to quit for good.
The annual No Smoking Day campaign is now in its 33rd year and on Wednesday more than one million people are expected to stop smoking across the country – why don’t you join them?
