VOLUNTEER COLUMN: Summer is finally here, so why not volunteer in the sunshine?
If the sunny weather makes you want to get outside and enjoy it, why not find a volunteer role that will help you to do just that.
You could be outside, making a difference to your community and enjoying the sunshine.

Volunteer walk leader – Healthy Walks in Arun/Freedom Leisure
Volunteers are required to become walk leaders for the Healthy Walks in Arun programme and to support walkers to receive the physical and social benefits of walking.
They are looking to expand the walks programme to include outlying villages within the Arun area and slower/shorter walks for the less mobile.
Commitment could be as little as one hour per week/month.
Volunteers would be required to attend volunteer walk leader training for a day to teach you how to lead a safe and enjoyable walking session for all ages and abilities, promote health benefits and identify potential risks and hazards on your walk and to help tailor health walking to meet individual needs.
Orchard volunteer – HFT Sussex
HFT is a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities and their families; everything they do focuses on helping the people they support live the life they choose.
They are looking for volunteers to help them produce and sell products made from apples and pears from their own orchard.
Tasks may include: the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops, as well as the preparation, sorting and pressing of fruits; and bottling up the finished product.
You must be able to work as part of a team and have skills in manual dexterity and/or good eye-hand coordination.
Seasonal assistant groundsperson – Littlehampton Sportsfield Trust
The Littlehampton Sportsfield Trust aims to create, develop, coordinate and promote opportunities for all the community to participate in sport, physical activity and recreation leading to an improved quality of life, health, social and emotional well-being.
They are looking for a volunteer to provide assistance to the groundsman with various duties including pitch rolling, grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming and other seasonal work.
While driving a tractor or triple mowers on site will be a requirement, training will be given and there will be no driving on public highways.
Gardener – East Preston Infant School
East Preston Infant School is a two-form infant school and the children range from 4 to 7 years of age.
A volunteer gardener is required for general gardening within the school grounds.
If you have a warm personality, good sense of humour, are able to talk to small children and have a good understanding of the ethos of the school, as well as good knowledge of gardening and an ability to perform light to medium outdoor tasks, this might be the ideal role for you.
You must be over 18 for this role and a DBS check will be required.
