TIM DREW: Reward those working for you

DO you know of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme which can demonstrate or show evidence of having made a positive difference within its community?

Or of scheme co-ordinators whose achievements have been above and beyond what might normally be expected of volunteers?

If so, then here’s an opportunity to show your appreciation. To celebrate and reward the work carried out by Neighbourhood and Home Watch volunteers across England and Wales, Neighbourhood Watch members are invited to submit nominations for the inaugural National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Awards on Tuesday, June 18, at the House of Commons, as part of the annual NHW Week celebrations.

Members, co-ordinators and partners are encouraged to nominate both schemes and members for up to a maximum of two awards per nominee, from the following 10 categories: partnership working; outstanding achievement (scheme); outstanding achievement (co-ordinator); community engagement; national database (neighbourhood alert); environmental improvement; community advocacy inspiring youth; safer neighbourhoods.

Self-nominations will also be accepted.

A short-list for each of the 10 award categories will be selected by each region, with overall national winners and runners-up selected by the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network (NHWN) board of trustees.

Application forms can be downloaded from the Neighbourhood Watch website. They should be emailed to: [email protected] or posted to NHWN, Beaumont Enterprise Centre, 72 Boston Road, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, LE4 1HB, by 5pm on Thursday, March 28.
