ST BARNABAS: Heartfelt thanks to wonderful volunteers

This week I would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our incredibly generous volunteers.

Our volunteers give a most valuable gift, not only at Christmas time, but all year round, and that is the gift of their own time.

We have such a wide range of volunteers, including those who support us at the hospice itself and those out in the community.

We currently have more than 640 volunteers undertaking roles both at the hospice, such as counsellors, gardeners and receptionists, and also in our shops and retail distribution centre, sorting through donations.

Over the past year the total number of hours given by those on-site (including community companions) has been in excess of 71,000, which is calculated to be worth over £840,000, an astonishing figure.

On top of this there are hundreds of people who give their time at off-site fundraising events throughout the year for both St Barnabas House and our children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House.

Last year this totalled 1,870 offers of volunteer help at 153 fundraising events and those volunteers gave us 4,682 hours of their free time.

Their contribution is truly invaluable.
