The never-ending delights of decorating | Kelly Brown

Paint pots in the hallway, piles of stuff moving around the house and a slight sense of disarray, can only mean one thing in my house ... I’ve decided to decorate again!

Now, of course, I know it will all be worth it in the end but, right now, I’m wondering what on earth I was thinking, as I embark on my latest bit of painting.

For the moment I’m putting the blame firmly on the fact that I am working at home, which means that I’m noticing things that need doing more easily.

Or maybe I’m just letting them bother me a bit more as, instead of rushing past that bit of wall that needs painting on my way out to work, I’m passing it all day, every day as my commute is reduced to a few steps from the kitchen to the living room.

Either way, at the weekend, I cracked and headed out to grab some paint and make a start on freshening up the place ... while simultaneously causing complete and utter chaos!

My starting point was the hallway, which meant I had to move out far too many pairs of shoes and coats under the stairs, as well as charity shop bags that have been hibernating there.

This left me quietly crying at what a mess my bedroom now looked because that was the chosen location to dump everything out of the way.

And, of course, even more mess with rubbing down of the woodwork and escapee paint splatters (no matter how careful you try to be”) was only ever going to make me wonder what I was thinking when I decided this was a good idea.

But, once it is all done, it looks clean and tidy and worth the hassle. Until, of course, you factor in that the door frame then leads into another room and is now no longer quite the same shade of white and also needs doing!

And so on to the next room and the never-ending cycle of mess, delight, mess, delight that is set to continue for the next few weeks. And I have no-one else to blame but myself!
