The Magic Carpet Room

At Chestnut Tree House we have a special room for the children called the Magic Carpet Room.

Inside is an interactive computer which projects an image onto a mat that can be on the floor or on top of a wheelchair table.

There are lots of different images and scenes to project, including a pond with fish, or leaves, and when the child moves the image responds.

For example the fish swim along and the leaves scatter. Hours of fun can be had in this room as it is accessible by all of the children, including those with very complex conditions.

The room, which has been fully-funded by donations, has been set up to be a full sensory experience with murals on the wall and hanging decorations. We have had an outer space theme and an under the sea theme. Now we are in the jungle.

On one wall is a canvas which depicts a colourful jungle with lots of different animals. This is all thanks to a very special volunteer, Stuart, who has been painting these amazing scenes for us. He is a very talented man.

We also have a throne for the king of the jungle, vines, snakes and a play zoo, so as you can imagine, a lot of fun is had in the Magic Carpet Room.
