In her last vlog for 2013 Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne launches the Safer in Sussex Community Fund; a new initiative that will provide financial support to local voluntary and community groups that aim to tackle crime and make Sussex safer.

The Fund, worth £200,000, will support projects that address the priorities outlined in the PCC’s Police and Crime Plan. These include commissioning initiatives that tackle crime, reduce reoffending and address community priorities such as alcohol, drugs, anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse and road safety.

Awards of up to £5,000 – or more in exceptional circumstances – will be granted for projects that meet the funding criteria. Bids will be considered by the Commissioner on a quarterly basis with the first round of funding allocated after 31st March 2014. More information about the fund can be found on the PCC’s website: http://www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/safer-in-sussex-community-fund/.

Giving young people a voice on policing and crime

There’s still time to apply to be a member of the Sussex Youth Commission, which will create an effective system for consultation between young people and the PCC.

The Youth Commission will provide a platform for young people to support, inform and challenge the Commissioner on her Police & Crime Plan, ensuring young people’s views are represented when key decisions are made and that they are involved in this process.

If you are a young person in Sussex, aged 14-25 years old, and would like to find out more about becoming a member of the Youth Commission, visit http://www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/youth-commission/
