HEALTH AND CARE: Have a go at the September Dryathlon
After a summer of fun, holidays and most likely overindulgence, become a Dryathlete this September.
Cancer Research UK is asking people to become Dryathletes and give up drinking alcohol for one month this September to raise awareness and money to help beat cancer sooner.
Cancer affects millions of people around the world every day and is responsible for 8.2 million deaths per year, out of which four million people die prematurely (aged 30 to 69 years).
Being able to spot the signs of cancer is vital.
Changes to your body’s normal processes or symptoms that are out of the ordinary can sometimes be an early sign of cancer.
In many cases, your symptoms won’t be related to cancer and will be caused by other, non-cancerous health conditions.
However, it’s still important for you to see your GP so that they can investigate your symptoms and if needed, help you to get treatment early.
Not only will you be helping other but you’ll be helping yourself too.
Taking up the challenge and giving up alcohol for a month can really benefit your health and wellbeing:
• You’ll feel more energetic and get more things done.
• You’ll sleep better or even snore less.
• You’ll be cutting out all those wasted calories and lose weight.
Even the smallest acts can have a great impact.
