Did you know that less than three per cent of us actively give blood?

And yet, if we become unwell or have an accident and need to be given blood, we just assume it’s there and available.

Every day across England we need over 6000 blood donations to help treat patients in need.

Giving blood is so simple and most people can donate if they:

• Are fit and healthy.

• Weigh more than 7st 12lbs or 50kg.

• Are aged between 17 and 66 (or 70 if you have given blood before).

• Are over-70 and have given blood in the past two years.

Men can give blood every three months and women can give blood every four months.

If you are thinking about giving blood, find out more and how you can register at my.blood.co.uk

Did you know that more than 6,000 people are waiting for a transplant?

Transplants can save or greatly enhance the lives of other people whose organs are no longer working properly.

Anyone can register as an organ donor – you can choose to donate some or all of your organs, and you can change your mind at any time.

Some organs you can donate are:

• Kidneys.

• Heart.

• Liver.

• Lungs.

Becoming an organ donor is a very personal decision and only one you can make, but if you do choose to become a donor the process to register is very simple and only takes a few minutes.
