DOZY'S RAMBLES: Can't wait for new heritage centre to open

I was the very first to buy a house and move into Orchard Gate, next to Southlands Hospital, in the Upper Shoreham Road.

As new developers move into the site next door to me it looks like I am back on a building site for goodness knows how long.

Over the past couple of weeks I have watched the buildings at the rear of the site coming down.

In the next week or so I am sure that I will be watching the Harness block being knocked to the ground.

In my mind I believe that this will be an historic moment as I watch our NHS going deeper into the mire.

Has this really been thought out? Surely we should be building hospitals not knocking them down for housing developments?

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear of some pretty amazing companies making history in Shoreham, one such company is Ricardo based at Shoreham Airport.

So much of their output is so top secret that even half the staff don’t know what is going on.

We do know that they developed the McLaren car engines for Formula One racing; they also do a lot of MOD work.

The company is now developing a £1.5 million pound heritage centre on site at Shoreham.

Once opened, in autumn 2016, visitors will be able to see the company’s many historic cars, technological exhibits and displays.

I, for one, can’t wait.

Another barmy EU law has come into force – if you go fishing and catch a bass you could find yourself with a hefty fine, put in stocks or hung, drawn and quartered.

I guess now if you go fishing you will need a wall chart in order to identify the poor fish you catch.

I couldn’t tell the difference between a goldfish and a Dover sole.

I am not a fisherman, but in the past I have, on the odd occasion, picked up a rod when on a friend’s boat in the hope I don’t actually catch anything.

Well done to Shoreham FC, who have had some pretty amazing results over the past couple of weeks, including an eight nil win at home to St Francis.

This is good old-fashioned football, played in the rain and mud, just as it used to be.

At the end of the game the pitch looked like a tractor had rolled over it several times – great.

Oh how I used to love playing football in the mud when I was young, my poor mother not only having to clean me but wash my kit that was just caked.

The professional modern players of today would be scared to get their knees dirty.

I find it amazing when I go to the Amex to see Brighton playing in the rain that the players leave the pitch as clean as when they came on – that’s even after a sliding tackle.

Only a matter of time, I believe, before we see Shoreham moving up the leagues, which is exactly what chairman Stuart Slaney wants.

Keep on playing like this and the dream will come true.

It’s been announced that from the beginning of January Adur District Council will record all meetings, including public question time.

The recordings will then be made available on the Adur & Worthing Councils’ website.

Why can’t the meeting be broadcast live on the council website?

I understand that no recording will be made during any part of the meeting when the press and public are excluded.

Normally, and in my experience, this is when a council officer is ‘telling off’ a councillor.
