Nominations begin for which young firm from across Worthing, Shoreham and Littlehampton deserves three months free advertising and mentoring

This week, encouragingly, saw entries start to come through for the Herald’s latest industry campaign, the Local Business Accelerators scheme.

The Herald and Gazette is joining hundreds of papers across the nation to offer a firm chosen by business mentors from each area a huge marketing boost of three months’ advertising in a commendable initiative devised by the Newspaper Society.

Rarely, if ever, have papers linked up across the UK in such a manner and it’s no surprise it’s already attracting high-profile backing.

Prime minister David Cameron and Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden have been quick to offer support.

Thanks is also due to the Worthing mentors including Secret Millionaire star Gill Fielding, Adur and Worthing Business Award winner James Stoner of JSPC and Spofforths partner Chay Took.

They have all come on board to offer support to the area’s campaign winner.

The initiative comes against a backdrop of the latest national inflation figures showing increased pressure on our high streets and a tough economic picture. With this in mind, such projects offer valuable hope in these challenging times.

As well as a three-month advertising campaign, the selected young company, aged between one and three years, will also gain some extremely useful mentoring from established entrepreneurs within the Herald and Gazette area.

Key to the success of this campaign will be support shown from the public for emerging businesses in our area.

See the ongoing coverage in coming weeks to find out which firms have nominated themselves and have made the shortlist of this innovative, independently-judged scheme.
