The company, which delivers electricity to homes and businesses across London, the East of England and South East, has created the short films to show people the sort of work which is being completed by engineers during a power cut.

The films are available on the UK Power Network website or Youtube and can be viewed on mobile devices during a power cut.

They can also be sent to customers via social media or text messages to their phone, tablet or laptop.

Subjects in the videos include how engineers fix faults and damage on overhead and underground cables, and why it is sometimes necessary to temporarily turn off power supplies in order to complete repairs.

Director of Customer Services Matt Rudling said: “It is very important that our customers can receive information how and when they need it. The new videos are an effective way to inform people about the processes our engineers go through to get the lights back on after an incident - it is not as easy as just flicking a switch.

“They offer a great insight into what happens behind the scenes. I hope people will spare a minute to have a quick look online, so they understand what is going on should they ever experience a power cut.”
