A NEW Market Theatre is being launched in Shoreham.
Playwright and actress Janet Behan is launching the project for Shoreham Wordfest, having spotted the potential in the town centre.
She explained: “I was strolling through Shoreham Farmers’ Market and happened to find myself in Shoreham Methodist Church hall in Brunswick Road.Perfect size, nice and intimate but big enough for a bit of an audience, too. And it is free at lunchtime, just as the market is packing up, in a town with no lunchtime theatre.
“So the idea of Market Theatre was born, a simple, low-cost way of meeting the needs of the drama hungry.”
Having taught the Wordfest playwriting course last year, she discovered a wealth of talent in the town and an appetite for the art form.
“For playwrights, a properly rehearsed reading of their work is a vital part of the creative process,” she added. “No play can properly come alive without an audience.”
Anyone interested in writing, performing or watching plays is invited to the hall at 2pm on the second Saturday of the month. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
