The society has kept the price at £7.50, the same as the previous edition, even though it has two extra chapters.

One of the new chapters is called Manors and Manor Houses, about all the manors that previously made up the parish – mainly Sele, Beeding, Horton and Tottington.

Another chapter gives the history of Small Dole and there is also the strange tale of a dreadful fatality at the Rising Sun in 1885.

The book is available from 12 Towers Road, Upper Beeding, from Beeding News in Upper Beeding High Street, Steyning Museum and Steyning Bookshop.

Pat Nightingale, society secretary and author of the two new chapters, said: “The society would like to thank Upper Beeding Parish Council and Zoë Bates, owner of Valerie Manor, for their grants towards the cost of publication.”

Pat presented a copy of the book to Zoë at the nursing home, in Henfield Road, Upper Beeding, on Monday.
