New chairman for Worthing Hospital charity appeal

A NEW chairman, who knows just how vital quick treatment can be, has been appointed to help spearhead the drive to raise £1million for a new cardiac treatment unit at Worthing Hospital.

Darren Crabb has taken up the role as appeal chairman because he knows first-hand how important a second cardiac catheter lab at Worthing Hospital is.

He owes his life to receiving vital heart treatment when he was only 38, and now wants to do everything he can to ensure that other people get the chance that he had.

His company, Darren Crabb Wealth Management, representing St James’s Place Wealth Management, provides specialist financial advice across various areas including investment management, retirement planning, tax and estate planning to both personal and corporate clients.

He said: “I am proud to assist Worthing Hospital in its £1million cardiac appeal to help raise funds to build a second cath lab that will help them assist the growing number of people with a heart condition.

“I decided to become involved with the appeal due to the fact I needed to have a cardiac ablation procedure myself. Without the technology and equipment the cath lab provides, I would not be here today. When the fund-raising is complete and the new cath lab is built, it will be a pleasure to know that lives are being saved from the efforts of the local people within the town.”

During a cardiac emergency, the hospital only has a one-hour window in some cases to treat patients and therefore the cath lab could be the difference between life or death.

Lesley-Anne Lloyd, head of charity operations at Love your Hospitals, said that Darren’s friendship, support and dedication made him the natural choice to become the appeal chairman.

She said: “We are delighted to welcome Darren to the team – he has been, and will continue to be, invaluable to the hospital charity. We look forward to working with Darren over the coming months to reach our £1million target for our new emergency cardiac treatment centre.”
