Much still to do in the final few days of Adur Festival

Squashbox Theatre is bringing the fabulous slapstick puppet show, Curious Creatures, to Ropetackle on Saturday, with performing fleas, skateboarding snails and gymnastic gerbils to entertain and delight.

Adur East Lions are busy preparing for another packed family day on Sunday, with the Donkey Derby and Classic Vehicle Rally, which will include a children’s strange creature costume competition in the afternoon.

Fans of Shoreham Singers-By-Sea will be in for a treat with Songs From the Greatest Shows On Earth, an afternoon of show-stopping hits from Sound of Music to Mamma Mia and everything in between.

They will be handing out lyric sheets and are encouraging dressing up.

Local artist Katie Gandar has set up a new community arts project at Chesham House in Lancing and has been working with people there to put together an exhibition for the festival.

There’s Now’t as Strange as Folk looks back at the strange characters of yesterday, as well as peering through their eyes at how strange we would look to them in this digital age.

If you haven’t yet made it over to the Strange Creature Pop Up Pet Shop, there’s still time. There’ll be an early years special event there on Friday morning with illustrator Layn Marlow, who’ll be sharing her work, including the beautiful book, A Very Strange Creature.

And if you have already been and have made one of the creatures that are there on display, don’t forget to visit on Saturday to pick up your pet and take it home.

Shoreham Fort celebrates with the annual Military History Weekend, with re-enactments from every period between 1857 to 1945, and the jaw dropping canon blasts that will sound the close of Adur festival 2014.

There are exhibitions at Emmaus, Carats Café, West Street Loft, St Mary De Haura Church, Manor Cottage Heritage Centre, Buckingham Park, and the Adur Art trail continues for another week until June 15.

It’s been a really busy and fruitful year for the festival. We’ll be meeting at Ropetackle on Wednesday at 6pm to share feedback and ideas for next year. It would be great to see you there.
