Sussex British Motorcycle Owners Club was formed in May 1986 by a group of like-minded motorcyclists.

Malcolm Walter said: “They decided to create a club with the dual purpose of preserving both British motorcycles themselves and the ongoing interest in those machines, and at the same time undertaking fundraising for local children’s charities.

“Much has happened in the intervening years but nothing has changed our original objectives.

“Where once the club required members to own a British machine, we are now pleased to see anyone who has a genuine interest in those bikes.”

The club meets on Monday evenings at Climping Village Hall, giving members access to the Sports and Social Club bar, a separate hall for special events and both grass and hard standing outside for the summer.

There are currently around 100 members, either enjoying the social activities, tales of restoration successes and disasters, showing their machines at the many shows in the are, or taking part in the regular rideouts both in the UK and abroad.

After several successful years of holding a show at Newhaven Fort, the Engineerium Run was reinstated last year, in conjunction with Brighton and Hove Rotary Club, and this year’s event will be held on Sunday, April 17, at 10am.

Mr Walter added: “Always looking for new venues for our fundraising efforts, the club is more than pleased to be able to announce our 30th anniversary Classic Bike Show to be held on Sunday, May 8, within the grounds of the impressive Arundel Castle. Entry will allow limited access to the grounds, chapel and restaurant and you can upgrade to a full castle tour if you so wish.

“Over the 30 years, we have managed to combine our love of bikes and riding them with a very successful fundraising effort, having donated many thousands of pounds to local children’s charities.”
