Medieval tale of wheeler-dealing

THE story of the Lords of Bramber continues in the next Southwick Society Heritage Talk.

John and Jeanette Simpson will be at Southwick Community Centre on Monday, November 10, at 7.30pm, to continue the story of the de Braose family of Bramber Castle.

This illustrated talk is part three of the series about this rich and powerful family, who were medieval wheeler-dealers at the heart of the power politics of the time.

Southwick Society secretary Nigel Divers said: “They were political maneuverers and soldiers who helped shape the history of England and Wales while always having an eye to the benefits that the family might receive.

“Sometimes they were in royal favour, sometimes their plotting was miscalculated and eventually they came to a sticky end.

“John and Jeanette always give lavishly illustrated talks full of interest, so why not come along and hear about the real family whose story reads like a novel.”

Entry is £4 (£2 for Southwick Society members).
