The 22-year-old man had hurt his head on board a 72ft sailing boat, which was on passage from Plymouth to Hull, in the choppy seas.

The lifeboat was launched at 2.15pm to assist with a medical evacuation about six miles south of Shoreham.

A Shoreham RNLI spokesman said: “The lifeboat came alongside and the crew took the man off the sailing boat.

“Once on board the lifeboat, he was assessed and then taken back to the lifeboat station.

“An ambulance crew at the station treated him for a minor head injury and two of the crew took him to the railway station so he could travel home.”
