Medical centre is '˜Outstanding' in new commission report
A Rustington medical centre has been awarded an '˜Outstanding' grade in a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
Westcourt Medical Centre in The Street, is the first GP surgery throughout Sussex to be recognised as ‘Outstanding’, being noted for its attitude with patients and having a well-led team.
The centre, which has been open since 1986, underwent a facility renovation in 2013, and aims to offer the ‘best possible care’ with a friendly and helpful medical personel, serving nearly 12,000 patients.
Dr Glyn Williams, who has worked at the practice for 22 years said: “It is a team effort and we are absolutely delighted that the CQC recognises our efforts and commitment to providing high-quality care.”
The report highlighted staff understood the needs of patients, and patients fell safe and looked after.
It said: “Staff understood and fulfilled their responsibilities to raise concerns and report incidents and near misses. Opportunities for learning from internal and external incidents were maximised.
“Staff assessed patients’ needs and delivered care in line with current evidence based guidance. Staff had been trained to provide them with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective care and treatment.
“Patients said they found it easy to make an appointment with a named GP and there was continuity of care, with urgent appointments available the same day. Risks to patients were assessed and well managed.”
The surgery was inspected on April 14 for safetyness, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership.
The surgery has also been working to deliver a pre-diabetes programme for patients identified as being at risk.
Clair Fallows, practice manager, said: “We are so very proud of what we have achieved. It’s been a difficult time for us, and for our patients recently with the issues surrounding GP recruitment, funding and resourcing but this award validates our efforts and motivates us to continue to strive for excellent care.”
