Man named after fatal village crash

A man who died after a crash near Henfield has been named by police.

Paddy Crawford Clarke, of Staples Lane, Henfield, died after two cars collided on the A2037 Shoreham Road, between Henfield and Small Dole, on Thursday December 10.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.20am.

Police said the crash involved a Volvo estate car and a Subaru. Officers said the Subaru flipped onto its roof after colliding with a hedge.

The 22-year-old, driving the Subaru, died at the scene.

A 43-year-old woman, from Washington, driving the Volvo, along with a six-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton.

The road for closed for seven hours in both directions between the Nep Town Road junction and the A281 Brighton Road junction whilst crews dealt with the crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who saw either vehicle being prior to the collision to contact them by emailing [email protected] or by phoning 101, quoting Operation Angling.
