MAN KILLED IN SHOREHAM FIRE

AN elderly man was killed in a fire at his home last night (Wednesday).

Firefighters from Shoreham and Lancing were called to the blaze, at a ground floor flat in Surry Street, Shoreham, at 6.20pm.

A Careline operator alerted firefighters, but when they arrived they found thick smoke coming from windows of the flat, with the man reported to still be inside.

The fire was put out and smoke cleared by six breathing apparatus wearers using a hose reel and positive pressure ventilation fan.

Fire investigation officers and a police scene of crime officer are at the scene working out how the fire started but at this time it is thought the fire started accidentally, possibly by smoking materials.

Firefighters this morning named the man as 85-year-old Arthur Man.
