Long-hair look of 30 years will go for air crash fund

Phil Robson has chosen his favourite barbers for the momentous day, when he will say goodbye to his trademark look of the last 30 years.

The 67-year-old said: “The haircut and shave will be done at Wise Guys in Broadwater. I have used them for some years and I am very happy with them, for me it was the only option.”

The shave will take place on October 10 but the time has yet to be determined.

Daughter Carrie Robson, who is keen to support the fundraising effort, said: “My dad has had a beard for over 30 years and always has his hair fairly long.

“He is fundraising for the Shoreham Air Show Fund to help the victim’s families from that tragic day.”

Sussex Community Foundation is co-ordinating the fund, which has already topped £28,700.

All money raised will go to help the people and communities affected by the air crash on the A27 in Shoreham, where 11 men died due to a Hawker Hunter jet crashing during an aerial display on August 22.

The foundation, a registered charity, will manage all donations and ensure that the funds reach those people who need it most. The costs of managing the appeal are being met by Adur district and Worthing borough councils, Brighton and Hove Council, and West Sussex County Council.

Phil said: “I am fundraising to support the amazing work that Sussex Community Foundation do. They are the official Shoreham Air Show Fund to support people and communities affected.

“We were all affected the tragedy of that day, we didn’t have to know someone who passed to find it upsetting and traumatic.

“Many local people lost or knew someone who tragically passed on that shocking day and I want to help raise funds to help the families and friends in need.

“I have had a beard for around 30 years and my hair has always been on the longer side. I am going to shave my hair and beard off completely.”
