Lifeboat heroes try out their new station in life

LAUNCH TIME: Shoreham offshore lifeboat goes down the slipway of the new lifeboat station at Kingston Beach for the first time

“We’re using the latest generation of lifeboats.”

The lifeboat crews are getting their training in early, to make sure they are ready to go when the time comes for real emergencies.

“If we waited until we were opened to go out on training, we might get called out on a shout and not be prepared,” said Mr Cassan.

The new Shoreham lifeboat will be named the RNLB Enid Collitt, after a local woman who donated a substantial amount of money to the RNLI to fund the new station.

The method of launching it into the sea is vastly improved, putting less strain on the lifeboat crews and making response times faster.

The official opening ceremony is expected to be held in April.
