SHOREHAM Library will have to close for two weeks while the lighting is replaced.
The temporary closure is planned from 4pm on Saturday, April 18, to allow for the removal of asbestos and updating of the lighting.
The library, in Saint Mary’s Road, Shoreham, should reopen on Tuesday, May 5, at 10am.
In a report to West Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for residents’ services, Amanda Anderson, director customer services, said: “The lighting in Shoreham library is in need of replacement and updating.
“During initial investigation works into the replacement, asbestos was discovered in the ceiling. This will involve more complex work to be undertaken, including the removal of the asbestos, replacement of the ceiling and the installation of the new lighting.”
The works, costing £40,000, will include upgrading emergency lighting, which was found to be deficient in a fire risk assessment.
Loan periods will be extended during the closure. Alternative arrangements will be made for the collection of Blue Badges.
