A-LEVELS: Head ‘immensely proud’ of Steyning Grammar students’ achievements

The school identified a large number of students who produced excellent results.

Max Binkle achieved three A* and two A grades which have secured him a place at the University in Munich to study physics.

Seven students attained 4 A* and A grades; Thomas Ranger who takes up a place at the University of Bath studying Biochemistry, Tom Halmos who is progressing to Imperial College to read biochemistry, Jennifer Mason who will also be progressing to Imperial College to read mathematics with a year in Europe, Jamie Luxford who will study mathematics and computer science at the University of Bristol, Olivia Winter has been accepted for biology with a year in industry at the University of York, Victoria Godley who takes up a place at the University of Southampton to follow a degree course in biology and Tim McCanna embarks on a mathematics and physics degree at the University of Surrey.

Several students scored three A*s and one A, including three aspiring medics.

Rebecca van Pelt will read medicine at the University of Cambridge, Isabel Green at yhe University of Leeds and Ruth Allam at the University of Bristol.

The University of Bristol is also the destination for head boy Ross Cusdin who with two A* grades and an A will study English.

Amanda Chan proceeds to Cardiff University to read architecture.

STEM (science, technology, English and maths) subjects are the chosen route for many achievers.

Ellen Winter will go to the University of Southampton to study marine biology with a year in industry, Eden Shaw will also be studying biology at the University of Bath whilst her sister Adelaide progresses to the University of Bristol to study pharmacology with a year in industry.

Lisa Klawitter will be at the University of Bristol to study psychology, Molly Allwright to the University of Exeter for anthropology and Zoe Yeend to the University of Southampton for biochemistry.

Marina Crisp and Hester Toovey both gained an A* and two A grades, and head girl Olivia Cleary was in receipt of three A grades and a B.

Deputy head boy William Carey will commence his musical theatre course at Guildford School of Acting following his three A grades.

Olivia Foley takes up a place at the University of the Arts in London for fashion photography following an A* in this subject at A-level.

In the International Baccalaureate, Harry Diserens attained 42 points, progressing to Birmingham University to read liberal arts and sciences, Charlotte Gisbourne with 41 points will be reading physics with a year in Europe at Imperial and Benjamin Knee with a total of 39 points will be studying medicine at Leeds University.

Head teacher Nick Wergan said: “A-levels are tough qualifications - and I am immensely proud of how well our students have achieved at this level again.

“This is a mark of their commitment, sheer hard work and the dedicated support from their great teachers.

“It is the way our students achieve that impresses us as much as the results themselves and our students will be a significant asset to the universities, apprenticeships and work placements they are now excitedly taking up. I am immensely confident of a world in their hands.”

For the third consecutive year, the school’s pass rate was at least 99 per cent. More than a quarter of results were A* or A grades and 51 per cent were a B or higher.

In 28 subjects, the pass rate was 100 per cent.
