Last chance to save cash on your energy bills

CASH-STRAPPED residents in Sompting and Lancing have been saving hundreds of pounds on their energy bills thanks to a new pop-up ‘café’.

The hub has been running for several weeks across parts of Sompting and Lancing, with the final session scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday, July 28).

The Energy Café is run by Your Energy Sussex and has helped saved locals hundreds of pounds on their bills – with the highest individual saving reported to be about £780 a year.

Now, as the sessions draw to an end, the Louise Goldsmith, leader of West Sussex County Council – a partner in the project – is urging more people to see if they can cut down on their energy bills.

Mrs Goldsmith said: “The energy café created a real buzz at the heart of the community in Parklands and I’m delighted to see that many residents benefited from the free advice on offer to save a significant amount of money on their energy bills.

“We should all check our energy tariff on a regular basis to make sure we are getting the best deal.”

The last event will be taking place outside the Big Local Hub, in Cokeham Road, from 10am to 4pm.

Ollie Pendered, director of Communities Matter – which is backing the pop-up café – said: “Many people who visited us saved over £400 through switching their energy tariffs.

“I hope that the work we have taken will encourage people at home to have a close look at their energy bills and get the right energy tariff that suits them – consider their annual kilowatt hour usage and their particular tariffs. An average family home should use 3500kWh of electricity and 13500kWh of gas.”
