Linda Binns, of Western road in Lancing, organised a ‘Big Get Together’ event in her garden in aid of St Barnabas House, for her friend who lives across the road, Lucy Stephenson. Lucy attended with her 5-year-old daughter, Megan, despite having only been discharged from hospital the night before.

The event on Sunday, July 31 featured rock and roll music from Funky Lizard, performing together for the first time, fundraising games, a barbeque, raffle and cake sale. A total of £1,245.38 was raised for the charity.

Linda said: “It was an amazing day, a brilliant turnout by family, friends and neighbours and everybody seemed to really enjoy it. I think having such beautiful weather made it all the more special.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their kind donations, raffle prizes, and delightful cakes, and also for all the wonderful help and support before and on the day, which made the whole occasion a tremendous success.”

Linda and Lucy have only known eachother for a year, but try to meet up once a week along with Lucy’s cousin Lynsey Casaletto and Linda’s friend Jackie Brown.

The Big Get Together is a new initiative inviting people to join together with friends to have fun while raising funds to support the hospice.

Wendy Bardsley, community fundraising manager at St Barnabas House, said: “What a fantastic event. I met Lucy and her team when they visited the hospice only a few weeks ago and they decided there and then to have a Big Get Together to support the hospice.

“In such a short time I can’t believe what they achieved, all their friends and family mucked in, it was a proper garden fête and a wonderful feeling of love and support.

“It was lovely to see so many people supporting the hospice. Well done to Linda who did a brilliant job organising it and thank you to all the people who attended the event and made a donation.”

St Barnabas is a charity which provides specialist palliative care to adults with advanced, life-limiting illnesses, at the hospice and in their homes.
