Kitesurfers Lewis Crathern and Jake Scrace jump Brighton and Worthing Piers

DAREDEVIL kitesurfer Lewis Crathern has added another pier to his jumping record after leaping over Brighton Pier today (Thursday, November 11) almost a year after clearing Worthing Pier.

High winds and huge waves helped Lewis leap the listed building at about 4pm.

The 25-year-old professional kitesurfer of Lansdowne Road, Worthing, was also filmed as he soared over Brighton as scores of astonished storm watchers looked on.

Lewis said: “Brighton was a bit more difficult than Worthing because the pier is a lot higher.

“I got a huge wave and went for it.

“I felt safe. I would never attempt these things if I wasn’t 100 per cent safe.”

In November, 2009, Lewis flew over Worthing Pier with fellow kitesurfer Jake Scrace, 26, of Nelson Road, Worthing.

At 2.35pm today, Jake leapt Worthing Pier again, with mini cameras attached to his helmet, board and line, while a cameraman also took photographs from the beach.

Jake said: “It was more extreme than the last time. It was basically a hell of a lot more windy.

“I just had to pick my moment.”
