The 73-year-old is supporting St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House with his book, Story of the Lost Kite.

He has funded the project entirely himself, so that all the proceeds will go to the hospices, which he has been passionately supporting for several years.

Terry’s wife, Mary, died at St Barnabas House in Worthing in May, 2011, from thyroid cancer and he has been raising money for the two hospices ever since, with the help of his daughters Samantha and Jacqueline and their families, in recognition of the wonderful care she received.

The previous books have proved popular and through their sales alone, Terry has raised almost £7,000.

Terry said: “It’s great that the last two books have sold so well, and this one is a wonderful springtime story for your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and maybe it will get them in the mood to go out and enjoy the fresh air in the open spaces and do some kiting.

“By the way, the kite featured in the book happens to be blue and white, the same as our local Brighton and Hove Albion football team, so there’s a bonus for some of you!

“I’m really thrilled that I can help the hospices in this way and give children something that they can cherish for years to come.”

The series, which began with The Seaside Adventure and Adventure in the Snow, tells the story of Peter and Poppy in different situations and they are designed for children aged three to seven.

In Story of the Lost Kite, the pair get into trouble trying to rescue Peter’s kite when it gets stuck, just out of reach, on the railings on the bridge over a river.

The stories were first written for Terry’s grandchildren, Joshua and Eleanor, some years ago, when Samantha and her family lived in Hong Kong. They were written in instalments and read to them at bedtime.
