“INSPIRATIONAL business-woman” Zoë Bates has received a new Horsham Healthy Workplace Award.
The proud Upper Beeding care home owner and manager received the award from Horsham District Council for her work at Valerie Manor.
The residential home, in Henfield Road, employs 50 staff, who care around the clock for the 23 residents.
The award recognises the high standards of safety and attention to the well-being of the staff.
Zoë said: “We are nothing without our staff, so their health and happiness is a vital ingredient of their consistently excellent performance and our reputation.
“We are a small team and have to be prepared for anything, so looking after our staff means they can look after our residents extremely well, even at the most difficult times.
“We have organised NHS health checks and well-being MOTs for our staff.
“We are planning improvements to our grounds to improve cycle storage and give staff and residents a boules pitch as well as a lovely quiet area.”
Zoë celebrated five years at Valerie Manor in January and said at the time that running a care home was a dream come true.
“I can honestly say that this has been the best five years of my life,” she added.
Sue Rogers, Horsham cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, presented the award.
She said: “Zoë is an inspirational businesswoman and is a testament to the benefits a small business can get from investing just a little time in exploring the returns that a Healthy Workplace Award can bring.
“I would urge other businesses to take advantage of this award scheme.”
The Horsham Healthy Workplace Awards are open to any organisation in the Horsham district. They bring free help and support to build a healthy workforce and with that, enable a healthy performance.
The awards, launched in 2009, have changed recently, with stricter criteria for the Workplace Well-being Charter.
