Injured girl '˜ran into road' in Southwick

A GIRL was hit by a car in Southwick Square on Friday afternoon.

Sussex Police said she suffered minor injuries in the collision, which happened at 4pm.

She was taken by ambulance to Worthing Hospital.

Eye witness reports suggest the girl ran into the road and the accident was not the driver’s fault.

Among those at the scene was Cllr Peter Metcalfe, who did not see the crash but witnessed the aftermath.

“It’s not a nice thing to see,” he said. “I just came round the corner and there were a number of police cars and an ambulance and lots of activity in the street. I made my own enquiries and I understand she’s not in too bad a condition.

“I certainly was alarmed and I ran down there because I wanted to find out what was happening.

“It brings it home how vigilant we have to be. It could have been a lot worse.”
