The Herald and Gazette launch Go Green day

To coincide with Hospice Care Week, we are asking schools, business and organisations to Go Green for the day on Friday, October 14.

Participants can do anything green – from eating green sweets to wearing green or being green and cycling to work. Last year’s Go Green for St Barnabas raised £5,791.84 for the Building a Dream campaign to help build the brand new hospice.

Hospice Care Week is marked across the country to raise awareness of hospice care and address the misconceptions people have.

Andy Burt, director of adult nursing at St Barnabas, said: “When people are referred to us, they are often surprised by how, despite the heartbreak of serious illness, we offer hope and comfort to our patients and everyone around them.

“From being there through the hard times to helping celebrate the good times, we are here to help people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses to live well until they die.”

The money raised by this year’s Go Green day will help pay for the specialist palliative care provided at the hospice.

Sloane Vaughan, community fund-raising manager, said: “We were so grateful to readers for their support during last year’s Go Green appeal. It was really good fun and raised a fantastic total.

“Now we are in our wonderful new building, we are expanding our services and providing specialist palliative care to even more local people. We are therefore delighted that the Herald and Gazette have generously offered to run the Go Green for St Barnabas appeal again this year during Hospice Care Week.”

The first people to sign up to Go Green are staff at Greenwood Airvac in Rustington.
