Since January, we have asked you to vote for who you thought should be given the coveted crown of the best gym in the area. We wanted you to take into consideration what it was that you thought gave your gym the edge, what lifted it above its rivals and gave you what you wanted.

And you did, thanks to the strength of this year’s entrants we’ve had hundreds of votes registered for the gyms that featured in the top 10. But in the end there could be only one winner – David Lloyd Worthing.

Andrew Day, general manager at David Lloyd Worthing, in Romany Road, Worthing, said: “We are extremely proud to have been voted Gym of the Year and thank all of our members for their support and recognition.

Impulse Leisure Lancing Manor came in second place

“We exist to provide the best possible experience to our members every time they visit us. We offer a breadth of activities for all ages that is not available elsewhere and our team genuinely care about helping our members achieve their goals.

“More importantly we are a place to meet friends or enjoy time together as a family. We are more than a gym. We are a CLUB.”

Following an £800,000 investment, the Worthing club now offers new facilities, including a dedicated spin studio and new DLicious Cafebar, as well as a functional training area in the gym. There is also tennis, badminton, indoor and outdoor pools, a huge range of classes, gym facilities and expert coaches.

In second place came Impulse Leisure Lancing Manor and in third place came Virgin Active Rustington.

Lancing Manor, in Manor Road, Lancing, now boasts a fully-refurbished fitness suite, housing the latest in exercise equipment and benefiting from Wellness technology .

Rustington Health Club, in Golfers Lane, Angmering, has revolutionary equipment and cutting-edge classes. There is something for everyone in your family, including fitness programmes, extensive swim lessons and a variety of activity camps.

We thank all the gyms that participated and hope that they all enter again next year to see if they can win in 2017.
