Helps for those in fuel poverty in Adur and Worthing

RESIDENTS in Adur and Worthing in fuel poverty can get help keeping their homes warm.

Adur and Worthing Citizens Advice Bureau has employed a specialist adviser to help those defined as “fuel poor”, meaning they spend more than 10 per cent of their income on heating.

Angie West, CAB fuel poverty adviser, said: “It is starting to get cold now and with the increase in fuel costs, paying for fuel is going to get more difficult for everyone. It is particularly worrying for people who are on a low income, the house-bound elderly or those with young children.

“It is important people get advice at the beginning of the winter and not wait until they have built up large debts. I can give advice over the phone, in the office or, if necessary, at a person’s home.” She added she could help residents check whether they are entitled to benefits and advise of government grants for insulating and heating.
