Girls to benefit from new football equipment

SOCCER-MAD girls from Shoreham are set to benefit from new equipment.

What started off as a springtime kickabout, at Shoreham's Buckingham Park, turned into the girls representing Adur at the Sussex Youth Games in Eastbourne this summer.

Owing to the success they have enjoyed alongside Adur Athletic Football Club's teams, the girls have received new football equipment.

Donated by Adur District Council, the gear was presented yesterday at Buckingham Park. The girls' team started thanks to an amazing response to an open training session at the park in April.

More than 50 girls aged six to 13 turned up to play football as part of Adur council's initiative to get children fit.

Tammy Waine, Adur's community and well-being officer for sport, said: "The girls are really enjoying their football and are going from strength to strength."
