It’s less than ten hours now until the Worthing Race For Life.
Women in the town have joined the ‘pink army’ ready to take on cancer tomorrow (Sunday June 21) in the 5k, women-only event.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k events which raises millions of pounds every year bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Chris Woods, Event Manager for Race for Life in the South, said, “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Worthing.”
In 2014, thousands of women took part in Race for Life in Worthing and helped raise an incredible £150,000 for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. This year, the charity hopes the 2,300 who have entered will hit a fundraising target of £180,000
By raising money through Race for Life, people in Worthing are helping Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists make advances in research which will help more men, women and children survive.
A Race For Life spokesperson said, “Taking part in Race for Life, alongside thousands of like minded women, is incredibly motivating. The atmosphere at all the events is full of emotion as participants wear signs on their backs declaring their reasons for taking part. Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.
“Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like. Because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”
The Worthing Race for Life starts at Worthing Seafront, Steyne Gardens, at 11am.
