Calamity Jane the Pantomime

Get set for some whip crackin’ fun in Shoreham next month.

An “untraditional” pantomime has become something of a tradition in the town.

Adur Theatre Company, a local amateur dramatic company that has been based in Shoreham for more than 30 years, is performing Calamity Jane! – the Pantomime in January.

The production has all the characters you might expect, Calamity Jane, the Dame, Clint Westwood, the principal boy and, of course, Lightning the horse! There are cowboys, indians and Mexican bandits, all getting up to mischief in true panto fashion.

Directed by David Whatman, this is a rollicking Wild West adventure, featuring several well-known characters, such as Pocahontas and The Milky Bar Kid.

Calamity Jane emigrates from Yorkshire, England, to the American Wild West, expecting to share in her brother’s goldmines.

Geronimo wants to drive the paleface from the land and plans to start by wiping out the citizens of Silver Creek.

To this end, he enlists the Mexican Bandits to kidnap Candy Barr, owner of the only saloon in town, to try to lure the townsfolk into a trap.

Fortunately nothing goes to plan!

Geronimo also plans to unseat Chief Talking Bull, lover of the fast-food hi-tech world of the paleface, and declare all out war.

However, an unlikely alliance forms between the disillusioned bandits, the outlaws Angelina and Jolie and Texas Ranger Clint Westwood . . . but can they defeat Geronimo?

Adur Theatre Company’s production of Calamaity Jane! _ the Pantomime, comes to the Harper Hall at the Shoreham Community Centre, in Pond Road, from Thursday, January 10, to Saturday, January 12, at 7.30pm, plus a matinée on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £10, with a 10 per cent group discount for bookings for 10 or more tickets.
