THE sight of so many people on Remembrance Sunday in Shoreham bought a tear to the eye.
Wreaths were laid at the War Memorial in East Street on both Sunday and Tuesday.
Mrs Barbara Bradley, branch secretary for Shoreham-by-Sea Royal British Legion, explained: “A lot of people had bought the small wreaths, personal ones, which we don’t normally have. It looked absolutely magnificent.”
Fred Lewis, chairman of Adur District Council, lay a wreath as part of the service.
He said: “I’m proud and extremely honoured to represent the villages, towns and residents of Adur, at this year’s Remembrance service.
“Not only are we remembering the sacrifices of those that gave their lives in the great wars, but to also those and their families, who have served and continue to serve in all the conflicts and operations that continue today around the world.”
Helen Buck, the council’s surveying and design services manager, said all the names on the Shoreham War Memorial had been re-engraved in the last few months, ready for the commemorations.
Our Gallery has all the photographs taken by Derek Martin on Sunday.
