Fund-raisers go green to support St Barnabas

This year’s green-themed fund-raising drive was held to coincide with Hospice Care Week, which is marked across the country to raise awareness of hospice care and address misconceptions people may have.

Schools, business and organisations from Rustington, Worthing and Shoreham took part in Go Green day on Friday.

Sloane Vaughan, community fund-raising manager, said: “Go Green went really well and we are delighted so many people had fun joining us. We are still awaiting totals but think we have raised in excess of £1,000 which is fantastic for such a fun day.

“We would love to thank everyone who has got involved during Hospice Care Week and Go Green day – you are all fantastic.”

Staff at Greenwood Air Management, in Brookside Avenue, Rustington, dressed up for the occasion by wearing green. They held a raffle and a green tea party and raised £308. They also donated six bags of clothes to St Barnabas charity shops.

Staff and volunteers at Barnabas House joined in by wearing green for the day and made donations for mint-flavoured brownies baked and donated by Sarah Westall of Just Brownies. Bar42, in Marine Parade, Worthing, made green cocktails and donated money from each one sold towards the Go Green event.

At the Downlands Toby Carvery in Upper Brighton Road, Worthing, staff temporarily coloured their hair green and asked customers for donations.

Downsbrook Middle School, in Dominion Road, Worthing, had an assembly led by St Barnabas House hospice fund-raiser Neil Francis about Hospice Care week and pupils enjoyed a day of wearing green to school.

St Peters Primary School in Sullington Way, Shoreham, also went green for the day.

The money raised by this year’s Go Green for St Barnabas day will help pay for the specialist palliative care provided at the hospice.
