Floral tributes line Old Toll Bridge

PEOPLE of Shoreham, desperate to do something in the wake of Saturday’s tragedy, are laying flowers on the Old Toll Bridge.

Lines of beautiful flowers adorn the western end of the bridge, nearest to the airshow site, some with poignant messages and among them, a child’s drawing.

Carmel Hillary, who lives in the town, said the Shoreham community had come together to pay tribute.

Among the bouquets is one wrapped in a Brighton and Hove Albion scarf and another with a message offering ‘deepest sympathy’ from the Shoreham Airshow fairground team.

The Southwick Unit of St John Ambulance left flowers with the message: “Our thoughts are with loved ones left behind.”

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton said he had been out and about in Shoreham throughout the weekend.

“There is a very sombre mood about the community that something this tragic could happen in what is a happy, thrilling event that many people have come to for 26 years,” he said.
