Two hose reels and a jet was used, along with a fan to ventilate.

There were no reports of any injuries, with all occupants accounted for, a spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said.

But there was significant damage to the flat, with 100 per cent bedroom damage by smoke and 20 per cent damage by heat.

The fire was started accidentally, the spokeswoman said.
