Fiona runs Brighton marathon for domestic abuse charity

FUNDRAISERS from across the Herald & Gazette patch put on their running shoes and took to the streets of Brighton for the city’s fifth marathon on Sunday.

Not content with completing the Brighton Half Marathon in February, Fiona Rankin, committee member and ex-service user of domestic abuse awareness charity Worthing Women’s Aid, trading as Safe in Sussex, was one of nearly 9,000 runners to take part.

Fiona said: “When I run the long distances I remember my Mother’s history and I remember my own. I have come such a long way and I have Safe in Sussex to thank for that. Through their support and encouragement I was able to see what was going on and start the process of recovery and healing. It is my pleasure and pride to be able to give back to an organisation that helped me so much.”

She raised more than £600 for the charity’s Children’s Support Service and The Crush Project, a structured programme of group support and empowerment for young people aged 13-19 years old.
